Reset Your Brain!

Reset Your Brain!

A neuroscientist says he has unlocked a way to access your brain’s “reset button” simply through breathing. Breathing techniques have long been known to help combat stress and anxiety, and Professor Ian Robertson says his method can help us access the brain’s so-called “reset button”. Robertson, a scientist researching stress and wellbeing, says that breathing exercises access the part of the brain that produces noradrenaline, the equivalent to adrenaline for the body. He claims it’s important to regulate noradrenaline, so your system isn’t always in “fight or flight” mode, which affects almost every organ in the body. To hit your brain’s reset button, try practising his “4-6” breathing technique, which involves breathing in for 4 seconds, and exhaling for 6. He calls this exercise a “perfectly safe and wonderful little, mini tranquilizer”. He also points out that it is very important for “clarity of thought for controlling our emotions and many other faculties.”
